Going, going g,….

As in the past week. As in my career. As in the place we called home for the past many decades.  As in life as we have known it.  We are gone and we are currently sitting on a plane over the Atlantic as I write this.

This last week has been hectic to say the least and not what I had expected.  I kinda figured that once I’d had my retirement g’byes at work, I’d get up the next morning, loaf around, we’d hang out up in Sechelt for a couple of days and then slowly mosey out of here and then be gone.  Life hates expectations.

Apparently, there were things (lots of things) that needed to be done as well as some ‘extra’ things that just sort of cropped up.  Packing and repacking (and repacking) travel bags and storage sheds. Vehicle storage and insurance to take care of.  What’s happening to our mail and who’s checking on what.  Finances.  Need to make sure the bank account will have funds for the next while since the ol’ paycheck ain’t what she used to be.  As in gone.  Things to do, places to go, and not enough time to do the ‘done’ before the ‘gone’.

And…, while we have said goodbye to friends, work, Vancouver, and a normal sort of life, the government keeps on saying hello.  Taxes that is.  Put that on the list of things to do and not gone.  Will probably have to interrupt all the drinking, eating, and general fun to do something about that.  Sigh.  I think the relevant files we need are in some box somewhere in storage.

But most things got done and we are finally out of here. Looking forward to the doing.  So, while we are over in Europe somewhere (we’re pretty sure we told everyone that it’s Spain), we’re not really ‘gone’.  The little wizards at the CRA I’m pretty sure, know exactly where we are.
