Yes, you get a part three. Because we like it here 😊. More pictures and lunch, or dinner, or whatever it’s called here. We went to our hosts’ casa for mid-day meal today, almuerzo, consisting of an egg/potato tart, bread, and paella all washed down with really good local Ronda wine, brandy (which I was told was one of the best in Spain), and some kind of national liqueur which tasted a lot like Jägermeister. All in all, a damn fine meal.

The casa, on the outskirts of Ronda, was a nice home, large yard with a swimming pool, a Labrador Retriever, and up until last year, an Ostrich, but that’s another story. For the price of a crack-shack garage in Surrey, this could be yours. It was an interesting conversation with our host Charo, her husband Antonio, and her son Carlos who was the Spanish/English translator. Our Spanish was waaaay better after several pints of alcohol!

Carlos is an interesting guy though. He runs a gym close by and teaches Muy Thai martial arts. He trained for a bit in Thailand and fought professionally here in Spain and in south east Asia. He also starred in some local promotional tourismo videos for Ronda which he showed us. We’ve included the YouTube links, so you can follow along. Apparently, there is a festival in May every year celebrating the Rondan victory over the invading armies of Napoleon. Pretty dramatic! Guys on horses, guys with muskets, beautiful damsels in distress, City of Ronda as a backdrop…I get choked up just thinking about it. Ok, waaay too much alcohol.
Una agradable tarde en el campo!
What a wonderful experience! I’m more than a little bit envious.
Yes, it has been fantastic. . . the food and assorted beverages were delicious! Apparently it is the custom here in Europe to sit around a table with friends and family, eating, drinking and socializing. It was a bit cold, so our host (Charo) covered the table with a large blanket and put a heater underneath. The blanket fit over our laps so the warm air stayed under the table keeping our feet and legs nice and warm. It was a very comfortable and cozy way to eat dinner.
Great. Pic and comments what fantastic trip your having enjoy every minute of it and you will have a life time of memories. Don
Yes, this blog will be a great place to store memories of a wonderful trip.
Wow! Ronda looks spectacular!! What a great experience being invited for dinner at the home of a local. Food looked fantastic and i am sure the alcohol was as well
Hey Laura. Yes it was absolutely fabulous. The people in Ronda were very welcoming, our host especially. We’d definitely go back.
Gary, seeing you laying back on the couch reminded me of many of your work days. Just kidding. People in Europe can be so friendly and welcoming. Makes for unforgettable experiences.
Brian, Brian, Brian…I was pretty relaxed at work wasn’t I? Still got more done in 1/2 day than you did in 2 weeks…:)
Yes, the people here in Jerez as well are very nice. The smaller places seem to have the friendliest people and the blog will be a great record of this experience.
