Alhambra

Let me get this out of the way first.  Yes, there were hordes and yes there was weather.  Cold weather as in really, really cold.  Like it snowed later, I kid you not.  And the Alhambra is an outdoor attraction. It was worth it though.  A truly amazing place; it is immense.  The palaces, terraces, and gardens built in the 1200 and 1300’s by the founder of the Nasrid dynasty, the Alhambra, literally meaning ‘red castle’, is a stunning architectural masterpiece sitting atop a hill overlooking Granada.  That the initial castle/fortress, the  Alcazaba, was built 400 years before the palaces is even more impressive.  That’s like, 1200 years old!  Over the centuries it became more integrated and today the public (AKA hordes) can roam over this vast area of roughly 35 acres.

We probably didn’t see the gardens at their best.  They are beautiful and would look spectacular later in the spring.  The palaces (9 of them) are an architectural marvel and every room has carvings, motifs and spectacular tile work with vaulted ceilings of wood and mortar carvings looking like stalactites in a cave.  It’s pretty incredible.  Teresa took lots of pictures, like about 400 or so.  We can’t post them all here obviously and they wouldn’t do the Alhambra justice.  Neither will yakking about it anymore as I couldn’t possibly give it a proper description.  So, you’ll have to come over and see it yourself.  It’ll be worth it, I promise.

That’s it for me today.  You got off easy…I could have titled this ‘Alhordebra’
