“Such a lovely place, Put that mask on your face Plenty of room at the Hotel Covid 19 Anytime this year You might find us here” It’s been an interesting year so far, that’s for sure. But we did finally make it back to Canada. Our journey from Malaga through Amsterdam on to Toronto went fairly smoothly compared to the last time we tried to leave Spain. The airplanes were only half full and the airports were relatively quiet, although they were busier than we expected. Europe is open for business and other than masks everywhere and a lack of full service (and meals) at the hotels, it’s pretty much…

Nova Scotia – Coles Notes
Better late than never. We’ve been back a couple of weeks now and I thought I should write something about the eastern trip. And what better time to do this than on another west coast miserable soggy day. The previous 2 posts were done a while ago but never got posted then as we a) didn’t have the photos to go with it, b) were feeling lazy, c) in transit a lot, d) were feeling lazy, e) didn’t have internet (the ranch), and f) were feeling lazy. Anyway, we spent the month of September in beautiful (sorry to steal BCs adjective) Nova Scotia including the couple of days in Halifax. …

Nova Scotia – Hi, I’m Dorian
So, we had our flights booked months ago, a non-stop from Edmonton to get us into Halifax mid-afternoon. Not too long and not too much jet lag like we have with the European flights. September 7th and the late summer/fall weather should be nice. Karma. It’s laughing behind your back. Plans changed obviously. We were due to land around 3pm just as Dorian’s eye was to pass over Halifax so the airline wisely cancelled our flight and rebooked us the following day. I was a bit bummed though. After earthquakes, lightning, and volcanos in Guatemala and lightning, tornados, and exploding meteors in Alberta, I kinda thought being in a hurricane…

Interlude Alberta – The Summer That Wasn’t
It’s been a while since we’ve posted anything. I’m sure most people who’ve followed this blog (all 3 of you) are probably thinking we’ve fallen off a cliff. But no, nothing so exciting. We just hung out in Sherwood Park again for a couple of months where nothing much happens…including summer apparently. We got back from Portugal in early July, spent a few days swapping gear out of the storage shed, and then hit the road back to Alberta via Kamloops and the ranch. It didn’t start all that well as we blew the vehicle engine somewhere in Abbotsford but like a lot our travel ‘events’, things just seem to…

Sechelt – Retrospective
As I write this, we are currently in Lisbon and we must say, it’s nice to be back in Europe. Decent weather (18 with sun and some showers here and there), Mediterranean food, and cheap beer. We haven’t written much in the past 3 months as, well, there wasn’t a whole lot to write about. Sechelt was ok but it’s a small west coast town and there’s not a lot to do there. It was also winter (and still is judging by the weather report), so even less to do. But we had a dog to look after and we continued our ‘european-like’ lifestyle which was get up whenever, leisurely…

Sherwood Park – Cars, Cars, and Old Cars, Arghh, Arghh, Arghh
What’s a pirates favourite letter? More on that later. And the only reason I’m even mentioning pirates is because I wanted to sneak in the parrot picture. One of the things my ‘Park’ friends like to do is hang out with the vintage car community. Cars seem to be a big deal here and both of us can appreciate what’s on display having owned a couple of vintage cars in the past. Over the years I’ve owned a ’47 ford sedan and a ’48 ford coupe as well as a ’65 Mustang and ’71 T-Bird. Teresa owned a ‘69 Chevelle Malibu and a ’69 Lincoln Continental Mark III. The…

Edmonton – Sherwood Park
So, we’ve been here in the ‘Park’ for 4 weeks now. It’s not a place where one usually goes on vacation. Most people leave here and go to Jasper, Banff, the Okanagan…somewhere else. But since we are on permanent vacation, this is where we are. I hear the collective “Why?” Well, I grew up here, south Edmonton and the ‘Park’ more or less. Edmonton was smaller back in the day and the ‘Park’ was a small hamlet just a few miles east. My family moved here in the early ‘60s and I stayed until 1979 when I graduated from University. This was where I spent my formative years. I made…

Kamloops – Jandana Ranch
The horse place. More specifically, the place where my horse, Cedric, hangs out. I’ve been going up to the ranch for 15 years now to do my horse ‘thing’ and it seemed like a good place to go after Vancouver, since I haven’t seen Cedric for 7 months. Teresa does not have a horse but she’s very partial to ‘Jimmy’ and he’s a sweet guy. Jandana ranch is owned by Janice and Dave Jarvis, just outside of Kamloops next to Pinantan lake. The 500 acre property sits on the side of a hill with some spectacular views of the valley east towards Pritchard. It’s a working ranch…
