in Vancouver, or Ottawa, or Atlantic Canada. But not here. At least so far. Sunshine and 18 degrees. We suffered through the last 2 months on the wet coast and that was enough. We hear it’s even worse now with Vancouver set for snow and cold, so we are going to enjoy the winter break here in Andalusia and this may become an annual thing as winter in any part of Canada is not really appealing anymore.

Malaga is the start of another 3+ months in Spain but we’re only here for a week to start with. We are still adjusting to the overseas traveling with the long flights and the serious jetlag that comes with it. This year we took an afternoon non-stop to London. We got in around noon, stayed overnight, switched airports and flew into Malaga the next day. The jetlag is much better but we’re still a little tired so a short stop here with no pressure to do things is perfect. We are on to Jerez again at the end of the week, then a while in Marbella, and back to Malaga for a month to properly explore the city. It’s nice to be back to warmth, good food, and cheap alcohol.
There will be a few things here to check out when we come back later. Besides the usual, museums, art galleries, and grand cathedrals, there is a large Moorish fortification called the Alcazaba that sits high on the hilltop and another fort on another hilltop called the Castillo de Gilbrafaro that we can easily walk to. There’s a nearby cliff walk called the Caminito del Rey that looks interesting and of course, we’ll be here when Semana Santa (holy week) starts and that’s a big deal in Malaga. More photos of KKK pointy heads for all of you. And there’s beaches to walk on. So, there’ll be more to write about over the next few months.
I guess it’s considered winter (and cool-ish) here in Malaga as the locals all seem to be wearing parkas and fur coasts. For this Canuck cowboy it’s shorts weather and by mid-day we are finding it quite warm. However, I am reluctant to venture out in ‘tourist’ attire as I suspect I will get a lot of strange looks. Even in a short sleeve shirt I feel conspicuous. I wonder what that’s like…to have never experienced 0 degrees or minus temperatures. Sounds like a goal to strive towards! I’m sure y’all back on the west coast can tell us, with the weather coming your way, but don’t bother…we don’t care. 😊
