What’s a pirates favourite letter? More on that later. And the only reason I’m even mentioning pirates is because I wanted to sneak in the parrot picture.
One of the things my ‘Park’ friends like to do is hang out with the vintage car community. Cars seem to be a big deal here and both of us can appreciate what’s on display having owned a couple of vintage cars in the past. Over the years I’ve owned a ’47 ford sedan and a ’48 ford coupe as well as a ’65 Mustang and ’71 T-Bird. Teresa owned a ‘69 Chevelle Malibu and a ’69 Lincoln Continental Mark III. The people that do this are very passionate about their cars and trucks. During the summer months there’s a car event almost every night of the week which usually consists of a bunch of hot rods in a shopping mall parking lot next to an A&W. Mostly it’s a chance to check out some new ‘old’ wheels and socialize. The weekends are reserved for the ‘big’ events like the Rock n’ Red Deer August long weekend or the Hot August Nights (Rock n’ August) in St. Albert or the Endless Summer show here in the Park.
Besides hanging out in parking lots, we also took in the 2nd annual Model T Races out in a farming community called Bruderheim. If that sounds small, think smaller. T races were big, I’m told, in the 40’s and 50’s but kinda died out. They’ve brought them back and it was…Ok, picture this. Sitting on the side of a grassy slope baking in the hot sun watching motorized barrels on 4 wheels scream past at 40 mph. Wheeeeee! Half the field couldn’t even get up to 25 mph and some didn’t make it 300 feet past the starting line. So, the races were mostly 2 fast cars and a lot of slow obstacles. The (surprisingly) large crowd really got into it and I must say, we had fun. May be next year they will have cars with actual working engines….
Oh, if you said ‘R’ to the pirate thing….doh! It’s ‘C’ dummy….pirates like the ‘C’.
