I wasn’t going to do another post on this beach resort town, but we went for a wander on the Friday before we leave Spain and…remember the last post where I mentioned the ‘Carnaval’ that is here every year. Well, that was in February, so I am not writing about that. However, we did run smack into…Gay Pride week. It started yesterday and runs until Monday with the big parade happening on Sunday. Not sure if we are going to this but it might be fun, so we’ll see. We did get some pictures though and I thought I should write something to showcase the photos.
Most places have a Pride day with a parade. Sitges has a Pride week and along with the ‘carnaval’ this must be the gay capital of Spain. Sunday’s event promises 20,000 people (this is a small town) and some 2000+ party events with tribute bands for ABBA, Boney-M, Michael Jackson, Prince, Shakira, and Madonna. It’s all just another reason to…what was that quote?…..have a booze-soaked riot. Sitges seems to do that quite well. Whether you are into this scene or not won’t matter much. If you are here, the steamroller is coming. It will be loud, proud, and I’m guessin’, very ‘flamboyant’.

So, we did go to the parade on Sunday. What else are ya gonna do on your last day in Europe. We have lots of pictures. Teresa got a front row seat and you know….it was as predicted. Flamboyant. They certainly know how to party. It really was a lot of fun. Our hosts told us that Sitges competes with Frankfurt for the gay title of Europe. Good to know. I can’t really begin to describe any of this, so the photos will have to do. Self explanatory really.
The parties run all night here but it’s not our thing and since we’re ‘old’, we retired early. Thank God we weren’t staying right in town. But it was a riot, booze soaked or not.
