It&#8217;s starting now.\u00a0 Well almost now&#8230;next week in fact (as I write this).\u00a0 Or maybe, it&#8217;s already started.\u00a0 How do you know when a lifestyle change actually starts?\u00a0 Is it a conscious process or do we wake up one day and realize things have shifted?\u00a0 Probably a bit of both.<\/p>\n<p>Let me try this again.\u00a0 Change.\u00a0 Most of it was planned.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a big change next week. \u00a0 After a long career in IT I&#8217;m retiring and it&#8217;s time for, well, a change.\u00a0 Teresa has been waiting patiently for this for a while.\u00a0 Time to do something different.\u00a0 The last big change was only last month.\u00a0 We became homeless.\u00a0 That sounds serious but it was planned.\u00a0 That it came a month early wasn&#8217;t.\u00a0 The big change before that was a few years back.\u00a0 Teresa and I both gave up home ownership and became renters.\u00a0 And we became renters closer to where I worked&#8230;close enough in fact that I could walk.\u00a0 No home ownership, no commuting. \u00a0 We saved money.\u00a0 We saved time.\u00a0 Teresa retired.\u00a0 Life became less stressful and we liked it that way.\u00a0 Huge change.<\/p>\n<p>And from there, the conversation drifted towards&#8230;.what&#8217;s the next change?\u00a0 Retirement for me?\u00a0 Sometime soon.\u00a0 What are we going to do?\u00a0 Not sure.\u00a0 Travel?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Buy a home?\u00a0 Ummm, not right now and especially not here in the Vancouver area.\u00a0 Prices are way too crazy.\u00a0 Where then?\u00a0 Not sure but let&#8217;s take some time and figure it out.\u00a0 Maybe there are other places that are cheaper to live, have a better climate, and are more relaxed?\u00a0 That would be the travel part.\u00a0 Then the smaller changes just started to happen.\u00a0 The garden shed became a storage shed.\u00a0 Renting here became why not rent somewhere else?\u00a0 Simplifying our lifestyle became lets\u00a0 get rid of a lot of unnecessary baggage.\u00a0 Dates got picked, airline tickets were bought, accommodation was planned.\u00a0 And one day it was all laid out&#8230;there, done&#8230;change.\u00a0 How did that happen?<\/p>\n<p>The change after next week?\u00a0 On top of being homeless AND jobless?\u00a0 Well that will be the start of the journey to&#8230;elsewhere.\u00a0 And we will try to make an effort to write about it.\u00a0 The places we go, things we see, the hotels and airBnBs, the people we meet and the food we eat.\u00a0 It&#8217;s one thing to travel around with a pack when you are 18, quite another when you are 65.\u00a0 Should be interesting.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t wait!<\/p>\n<p>As they say, change is constant, planned or not.\u00a0 Most of us though, go through life avoiding constant change.\u00a0 Hmmmmm&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>\/g&amp;t<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Change.
