{"id":3097,"date":"2018-07-15T13:14:01","date_gmt":"2018-07-15T20:14:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/?p=3097"},"modified":"2018-07-27T14:23:23","modified_gmt":"2018-07-27T21:23:23","slug":"west-coast-back-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/west-coast-back-home\/","title":{"rendered":"West Coast \u2013 Back Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">But not really.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a couple of weeks now since we got back from Europe and to tell the truth, neither of us really wanted to come back and it felt weird flying into YVR.\u00a0 Probably because we don\u2019t have a residence there anymore.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">We spent the 1<sup>st<\/sup> week up the coast in Sechelt, checking in on family, sorting out all the mail that had accumulated, and chores\u2026banking, car insurance, car maintenance, packing and repacking the storage shed and our backpacks.\u00a0 What fun!\u00a0 Much rather be on the beach in Tarragona, sipping a (cheap) cold one.\u00a0 That was a major jolt actually.\u00a0 Sticker shock.\u00a0 Groceries are usually the first thing we do anywhere but I guess we got too used to garden fresh food, reasonable prices, and cheap beer of course.\u00a0 Yikes!\u00a0 Especially here in Sechelt where everything seems to be another 30% higher than Vancouver.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">And that\u2019s where we spent the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> week.\u00a0 More chores and some clothing replenishment but we did get to visit some friends over dinners and that was good.\u00a0 I even got out to my old workplace for a visit and lunch with the old group, those unfortunate ones wishing they were doing what we\u2019re doing.\u00a0 It was nice to catch up and swap stories.\u00a0 Travel stories for work stories.\u00a0 Hmmmmm\u2026.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t inspire me to change my mind and go back to work, that\u2019s for sure.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The week in Vancouver also gave us a chance to reflect on things and see how we really feel about being \u2018back\u2019.\u00a0 Between the traffic congestion, high prices, and general atmosphere we both decided that we would rather be somewhere else.\u00a0 We left after the week stay and we\u2019re good with that.\u00a0 Vancouver\u2019s a great city against a beautiful backdrop of mountains and ocean, but we felt we no longer belonged and since we don\u2019t have a home there, \u2018elsewhere\u2019 will have to be home for now.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3112\" src=\"http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC07785Vancouver02small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC07785Vancouver02small.jpg 1500w, http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC07785Vancouver02small-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC07785Vancouver02small-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/travelblog.lewington.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC07785Vancouver02small-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>But not really.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a couple of weeks now since we got back from Europe and to tell the truth, neither of us really wanted to come back and it felt weird flying into YVR.\u00a0 Probably because we don\u2019t have a residence there anymore.
