So, we said bye bye Barcelona and hello to Granada, or more accurately, bye bye 20 degree sunshine and hello 9 degree rain and sleet.\u00a0 It\u2019s COLD here!\u00a0 You would think heading 800km south would jack the temperature up a bit\u2026maybe being next to the southern most ski resort in Europe explains a few things. \u00a0We\u2019ve been told that it is unseasonably cold this year. \u00a0Not great planning but it gives us a chance to rest a bit, not walk 10km a day, and maybe spend time doing tax preparation.\u00a0 Always my favorite thing.\u00a0 Granada, from what little we\u2019ve seen so far, is a pleasant city steeped in Moorish history.\u00a0 There are lots of old (11th<\/sup> century) buildings here, the most famous being the Alhambra, Spain\u2019s most visited historic site – a must see if you are ever in this part of the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We are staying in the old Arab quarter of Albaycin, a warren of white 2 story homes located in a maze of tiny stone streets.\u00a0 Getting here was interesting.\u00a0 The flight from Barcelona arrived in the early evening.\u00a0 Our Airbnb host who does not speak English tells us, via email, to get the airport bus into town, get off at some designated spot and catch bus number whatever and it will take us close to where he lives.\u00a0 Which is where exactly?\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be dark. \u00a0How do we know where the hell the bus goes?\u00a0 Would we recognize a likely stopping point even if it was daylight?\u00a0 Not a lot of English spoken here.\u00a0 So, we email him from the airport and tell him we\u2019re doing something different, \u2018cause we know better.\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 Anyway, he replies that\u2019s fine, get on a different bus number whatever when we get off the airport bus and that will take us to Albaycin close to where he lives.\u00a0 Which is where exactly?\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be dark.\u00a0 How do we know where the hell the bus goes?\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So,\u2026we take the airport bus into town, get off not where he suggested, spot a hotel and figure we\u2019d ask for directions and at least we\u2019d be able to get a cab if need be.\u00a0 Just before we get to the hotel, different bus number whatever pulls up at the stop.\u00a0 Decision time.\u00a0 We jump on the bus, ask the driver in broken Spanglish if he goes to Albaycin, which he does, and pray it\u2019s not some large area with 10 different bus stops.\u00a0 Did I mention it\u2019s now dark and we couldn\u2019t possibly see street signs even if there were any. \u00a0We sit down, next to an older gentleman, Teresa whips out the phone, shows him the email, which is in Spanish, and we ask him in perfect English, where the f*** are we???<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He got us to the right stop and we found our host after a phone call.\u00a0 Piece. O. Cake.\u00a0 We\u2019ll do some exploring over the next week, try not to get wet or freeze, and hopefully get into the Alhambra.\u00a0 I have a feeling that will be another story because it\u2019s apparently booked solid until 2022.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My weather app just buzzed me.\u00a0 Severe weather warning issued.\u00a0 Swell.\u00a0 Time to switch to the hard stuff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
